New York Anime Festival-NYAF

Anime Festival takes place December 7-9, 2007, at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan ands organized by Reed Exhibitions, the creators of New York Comic Con. The New York Anime Festival will showcase the best of anime pop culture, including the latest anime, manga, Japanese cinema, music, and games, and anime-influenced comics, animation, and films from around the world.

The Javits Center is located at 655 West 34th Street, overlooking a beautiful panorama of the Hudson River, and is New York City's finest convention facility with over 675,000 square feet of exhibition space. Anime Festival organized by Reed Exhibitions, the creators of New York Comic Con.  The New York Anime Festival will showcase the best of anime pop culture, including the latest anime, manga, Japanese cinema, music, and games, and anime-influenced comics, animation, and films from around the world.

The festival will feature exclusive and extensive screenings, a gala cosplay masquerade, sessions with the some of the biggest names in anime from Japan, Asia, and America, and explore the Japanese cultural experience with displays of both traditional and cutting-edge Japanese life.

Anime Festival celebrates the world of cosplay through two events -- the Masquerade and Costume Contest. The Costume Contest is for newer, younger, more casual cosplayers, as well as serious cosplayers who prefer not to walk across stage.  It is a closed-door judging of costumes only (no performances), with the winners receiving prize packages from Anime Insider.“Gaming and artistry are important parts of the anime experience, and there’s nothing bigger or better than Magic: The Gathering World Championships,” NYAF Show Manager John McGeary said. “We’re honored to have the Magic: The Gathering World Championships take place alongside the New York Anime Festival, and we know both events will only benefit from this partnership.”

The New York Anime Festival celebrates everything connected with anime culture -- with manga, J-Pop, and MMORPGs just the start.  Costumes must be connected to anime but they need not directly be from an anime.

Marketing to the Otaku Generation - Thursday, 1:45 p.m.
The otaku generation makes its entertainment and purchasing decisions in ways that traditional marketing often miss. Panelists discuss the key roles of the Internet, the ways that brands are built-in specialty retailers, and how break-out hits reach across distribution channels and product categories to become true mass brands.

Getting into Anime Journalism - Friday, 6:00 p.m.
ANN hosts a discussion on the state of anime journalism and how a fan can take his or her first steps into this field. (Here's a tip: spelling counts.) Special guest panelists from other major anime publications will be present.

The Art of Reviewing Anime - Saturday, 11:00 p.m.
Bring a pen and paper and remember to take notes! This panel will also include special guest panelists.

Translation Roundtable - Saturday, 12:00 pm.
What's it take to bring manga to America? Who are the men and women who turn literal Japanese into conversational English? Sit back as the translators and editors of some of America's biggest manga publishers talk about their difficulties, heartbreaks, and helpful hints. Moderated by ANN's Evan Miller.

Anime & Manga Research Roundtable - Saturday, 1:00 p.m.
ANN's Mikhail Koulikov presents an update on the current state of scholarship and academic research into all aspects of anime and manga. This panel will help you identify your own topics to research, introduce you to other scholars in the field, and maybe even help you publish your latest thoughts on why Neon Genesis Evangelion is the most incisive commentary on the current state of Western society ever. Panelists include Ph.D. students and professors from various NYC colleges.

Anime News Network - Saturday, 3:00 p.m.
Protoculture Addicts - Saturday 4:00 p.m.

State of the Anime Industry Roundtable - Sunday, 1:00 p.m.
