Dragon Ball Transformations

Introduction:
One of Akira Toriyama's favorite things to do were to give his alien's transforming capabilities. This always made fights more intense as you waited for someone to reach a certain transformation, or when the Z Senshi had to step up to the next level in a fight when their opponent transformed into some hideous beast (Furiza). Transformations usually decided a battle during all the major ones.

There are several types of transformations. In this guide, you will find information on all the types, as well as all the characters that perform them throughout all three series. A lot of this information compiled into this section is my (File's) opinion, based on facts from the show. Since the show doesn't give every detail, you might disagree with something said in this section since it's in such detail. If you do, feel free to drop me a line ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and tell me about it. I also left out the Super Saiya-jin transformations, but if you want to learn about those click here. Now, on to the information.

The most popular form of transformation was Henshin, or literally "going from one form to another". This was first introduced to us in series Z by Zarbon, who transformed in order to fight Vegeta. In most cases, the second transformation is always more powerful than the first, which is the reason behind transforming in the first place. Another reason was seen in Furiza's families case, where they transformed down in order to conceal their true power, basically an intimidation factor.

In Buu's case, when he absorbed someone inside of himself, they just shrunk into a small egg where he could use their power for his own use. In most cases, he also would take on the characteristics of the person absorbed if they were powerful enough to give him a large energy boost. Buu's favorite way of absorbing someone was to throw a piece of himself, have it expand, and then that piece would engulf the victim. He would then absorb the whole piece back into his body and voila.

In order for Cell to transform, he had to suck an android in his tail. He was designed with this feature in order to reach his perfect stage, and since the same computer that created the androids created him, it only was fitting that he had to eventually absorb the androids in order to become the perfect android. He could also absorb humans through his tail, but only their power leaving them an empty body of goo. He could not transform from absorbing a human, only Androids 17 and 18.
