Turtle Style

Turtle Style

Originator: Mutaito-sama
Style Master(s): Muten Roshi
Students: Chaozu, Goku, Gyuu Mao, Kuririn, Tenshinhan

History:

This art was founded by Mutaito-sama. It is called the Turtle, or Kame style because of the training methods used. Mutaito-Sama originally had two pupils: Tsuru-sennin and Muten Roshi. Tsuru-sennin turned evil and branched off his own style, known as the Crane Style. After Mutaito-Sama died capturing Piccolo in the Denshi Jar with the Mafuba, Muten Roshi continued to practice the Turtle Art and eventually master's it. He picks up 2 students, Gyuu Mao and Grandpa Gohan. Grandpa Gohan started teaching this style to Goku, but died before he could finish his training. Goku later is trained under the Turtle Master himself. Muten Roshi picked up a few more students later on in the series, but Goku was by far his best student. Out of this Style spawned great techniques like the Kame Hame Ha (Turtle Blast) and Mafuba. For more information on these attacks see bottom.

Training Techniques:

Turtle Shells

One of the unique training styles used in Turtle Style is the turtle shells. Depending on the users status, they would strap a weighted turtle shell to their back and train with it on. This enhanced muscle and speed after the body became used to the extra weight the shell provided. The advantage came when the shell was taken off, the body would feel lighter and thus you could move faster. It's similar to the weighted training Goku later gets into.

Another unique training method in this style was the Milk Boxes. Roshi made Goku and Kuririn carry these heavy boxes full of milk bottles great distances as fast as they could. This was a great endurance and strength builder, plus it kept their cardiovascular systems pumping hard. This training style can be enhanced even further by adding the Turtle Shell training to it. Goku and Kuririn were deffinately more powerful after undergoing this method.

Field PlowingField Plowing

Training under the Turtle Style, Muten Roshi made Goku and Kuririn plow entire fields with their bare hands. This was a great training exercise for arm strength and stamina. Like the others, this training was enhanced by also wearing turtle shells. Goku and Kuririn didn't understand the futility in these training methods, but after it was over they realized how much stronger they had become.

Fighting Techniques:

Kame Hame Ha (Turtle Blast):

The Turtle blast was first introduced to us by Muten Roshi. It took him 20 years to master this attack, but Goku, after seeing it once, mastered it. This attack is very powerful and has a dozen variations. First, the user cupps his hands to the side and begins a power-up, concentrating the ki into their hands. Then, once the correct amount of ki is concentrated, they throw their hands forward, keeping a cup shape in the hands. The blast that is thrown out is very effective. This is the trademark technique of the Turtle Style.

MafubaMafuba:

This technique was invented by Mutaito-Sama as a way to capture the demon Piccolo. The problem with this technique is that it sacrifices the user's life. First, you hold one hand in the air, palm up, and stick two fingers out. Basically, you concentrate on the user and pick them up, forcing their spirit to a destination. In all the cases, the user was forced into a jar known as the Denshi Jar. The aim has to be perfect in order to get the user inside the jar, and it takes a lot of practice.

ZanzokenZanzoken (After Image):

The Zanzoken "after-image" affect was first taught by Muten Roshi to Goku. The way it works is you move so fast that it leaves an after-image of you in one place while you attack from another. It takes a lot of practice to learn this technique, but it becomes very useful in battle. A skilled Martial Artist can use several Zanzoken at once.
