Origins and Founders:

It is unknown who the first dragon in the dragonball universe is, but the first one seen is the dragon that is summoned when the earth dragonballs are brought together. The origin of this dragon was Kame, the good split of Piccolo. Kame created the dragon to be able to grant wishes for man kind, and his original intention was that the dragonballs would not be found as frequently as they were.

The dragon was modeled after a small model, not known specifically but believed to have been created by Mr. Popo. During the Dragonball series, the dragon was killed by Piccolo damaio, but Mr. Popo reformed the statue and Kame was able to bring the dragon back to life.

Specific Traits:

In original dragonball, the dragons were modeled after ancient mythical chinese dragons. In the middle of the Z series, however, the Namek dragon had more of a human body with a dragon head. Even later in the GT series, the seven dragons had no specific traits to be noticed. In pointing this out, it is safe to say that the dragons of Dragonball were as diverse as any other species.

Interesting Facts:

In all three series, any dragon shown had some tie with either all or one of the Dragonballs.
