The Namek Dragonballs were the original set of Dragonballs. These balls were about the size of a large bowling ball.
The Earth Dragonballs were a smaller version of the Namek Dragonballs. These balls were about the size of a baseball.

This set of Dragonballs was created while Piccolo was still one with Kami. These Dragonballs have much more energy than the normal Earth Dragonballs.

As you can see, there is a very noticable difference in the size of the Namek Dragonballs, and the size of the Earth Dragonballs. The Namek Dragonballs must be carried with two hands, while the Earth Dragonballs can be palmed like a baseball.   After a wish has been made, the 7 Dragonballs will turn to stone, and scatter themselves accross the planet for a varrying amount of time.
